The visual identity for the Auszeichnung für gute Bauten der Stadt Zürich 2021–2024 is based on a set of elementary architectural forms. Roofs, arches, walls and openings are reduced to simple black outlines and combined into changing compositions. Rather than representing specific buildings, these forms create an open architectural vocabulary that can be continuously rearranged.
For the exhibition at ZAZ BELLERIVE, this graphic language was translated into space. Large yellow structures form walls, openings and passages, while the same geometric vocabulary provides the framework for drawings, photographs, texts and moving images of the awarded projects. Graphic design and exhibition thus become part of the same visual system.
Animation plays an integral role within the exhibition. The architectural forms are set in motion, continuously assembling, shifting and recombining on screen. Projected and displayed within the exhibition architecture, the animation extends the identity from a static graphic language into a time-based one, while providing a changing visual counterpart to the physical structures in the space.
